It’s used as a skin conditioning agent and as a pigment dispersion in many cosmetic products. It is a popular ingredient in sunscreens because it allows for SPF retention even after water exposure (like in waterproof sunscreens).

Studies concluded products containing Hydrogenated Polyisobutene have no phototoxic or photoallergenic properties. There are no known side effects regarding Hydrogenated Polyisobutene.
